- Who installs the app — the user installs it themselves, or IT installs it for everyone
- What gets installed — browser extension, desktop app, or both
Self-Install vs. IT-Install
| Self-Install | IT-Install | |
|---|---|---|
| Who does it | Each participant downloads and logs in themselves | IT pushes the app to every machine centrally |
| Good for | Small pilots, security-strict environments | Anything at scale or long-term |
Browser vs. Desktop vs. Both
This is a separate setting ("Capture Method") from who installs it, and it must be chosen before sending participant invites — it determines what participants are shown during onboarding (told to download browser, desktop, or both).
- Browser extension — captures browser-based work only
- Desktop app — captures desktop application work; does not capture browser activity
- Both — if you need full coverage, participants must be logged into both the browser extension and the desktop app separately. Logging out of one (e.g. the browser extension) can also log you out of the other.
