Comments ensure Scribes and Pages are accurate and easy to follow by giving users a simple way to flag issues or suggest updates. Editors can quickly make changes and resolve the comment, and updates are reflected instantly wherever the guide is shared or embedded.
Comments are supported on both Scribes and Pages. The sections below cover Scribes first, followed by Pages.
Leaving and managing comments on Scribes
There are two ways to add comments in a Scribe: on an individual step or on the entire Scribe. Just click the floating bubble next to any specific step to leave targeted feedback, or use the bubble at the top of the guide to add a comment at the guide level. Want to loop someone in? Just type @ followed by their name or email to tag them. You can also reply to any comment directly in the thread.
If you are the Scribe creator or an editor, you can view all your new, existing, and resolved comments directly from the comments side panel.
Setting comment visibility & permissions for Scribes
Permissions for comments are set at the Scribe level, and you can enable permissions in the editor side panel. Admins can also manage comment settings across the entire workspace in settings.
If comments are enabled, anyone with access to your Scribe who is signed in to a Scribe account can view and interact with comments. Users who aren’t signed in will still see the total number of comments on a Scribe, but they’ll need to sign in to read, add, or reply to them. If comments are not enabled, only the Scribe creator and editors can see or add comments. This gives the creator control over when feedback is visible to others and when it stays internal to the editing team.
Leaving and managing comments on Pages
Pages support the same commenting experience as Scribes. Instead of commenting on a step, you can comment on an individual block of a Page, including paragraphs, headers, tables, and callouts. Each block has its own comment thread. You can also comment on the Page as a whole using the Page-level comment area at the bottom of the Page.
Want to loop someone in? Type @ followed by their name or email to tag them, including people with a pending invitation. You can also reply to any comment directly in the thread. You can edit or delete your own comments, and Page owners and editors can delete any comment.
If you are the Page owner or an editor, you can view all comments in one place from the comments side panel. Once a comment has been addressed, resolve it. Resolved comments move to the Resolved tab and can be reopened.
Page owners are notified of every new comment. Teammates you tag are notified by email and in-app, and anyone tagged earlier in a thread is notified of new replies.
Setting comment visibility & permissions for Pages
The Page owner can turn comments on or off for each individual Page. Admins can set the organization-wide default for Page comments in settings.
People with edit access to a Page can always see comments and reply to, resolve, and delete them. If comments are turned on for the Page, viewers can see and leave comments.
Note: All comments made prior to the July 2025 release of our new commenting experience have been preserved. To resolve or add additional comments, you must be a Pro Team or Enterprise customer. Reactions have been deprecated to focus on providing editors with more actionable feedback.
