Adjusting the Scribe Desktop App Settings

The Scribe desktop app includes settings that let you customize how Scribe launches, captures your workflow, and collects helpful diagnostic data. Here’s a breakdown of what each option does and when you might want to use it.

 

How to access desktop app settings

  1. Open the Scribe desktop app.

  2. Click Settings.

  3. Review and adjust the options described below.

 

Startup settings

Start Scribe at login

What it does
Opens the Scribe desktop app automatically when you log into your computer.

Why it matters
Turn this on if you use Scribe regularly and want it ready to go as soon as your day starts.

 

Support & troubleshooting

Enable session logging

What it does
Records session activity so our Support team can better diagnose any issues you run into.

Why it matters
Session logs help us troubleshoot faster and more accurately.

To view logs
Click View logs to access the files stored on your device.

💡 Keep this enabled unless Support asks you to turn it off.

 

Capture options

These settings control what’s recorded when you capture a workflow in Scribe.

 

Capture input labels

What it does
Captures the labels tied to form fields and input areas.

Why it matters
Makes your Scribes more descriptive and easier to follow.


Capture keyboard

What it does
Captures standard keyboard input while you’re recording.

When to enable
If your workflow relies on typed input — like entering commands or filling out forms.


Capture special keys

What it does
Captures keys like Enter, Tab, Esc, and arrow keys.

Why it matters
Essential for workflows that use keyboard navigation.


Outline selected window during capture

What it does
Visually outlines the window being recorded.

Why it matters
Gives you confidence you’re capturing the right thing — and nothing else.


Include Scribe in capture

What it does
Includes the Scribe app window in your recording.

When to enable
Only if you’re showing how to use Scribe itself.

⚠️ Most people keep this off to avoid recording the Scribe UI.


Recommended settings

For the best experience:

  • Keep Capture input labels and Outline selected window during capture turned on.

  • Enable session logging if you’re working with Support or encountering issues.

  • Only turn on Include Scribe in capture when needed for training or documentation.
